[Sing! Rehearsals] Charity nominations please

Dear Sing!ers,
We are looking forward to seeing you again this Thursday 5th June at Hills Rd 6th Form College from 7:30 – 9:15.
This week we will be recapping Can't Stop the Feeling, starting a new song All These Things that I've Done and learning some more of Wonder. It is Sopranos' turn to bring snacks.
Please Practise your Parts!
This is a reminder that it is really important for this half term to practise your parts for the songs that we're learning, using the part tracks, before we recap it. That way we can make the most of the rehearsal to make them sound GREAT! This week that means making sure you know all of Can't Stop the Feeling.

Committee Nominations
This is a quick reminder that Committee nominations are open. Please see here for details of the different positions available.
We know we will have gaps next year for the following roles, so we particularly welcome nominations for these. But please do also apply for other roles too; many current committee members are happy to stay or not as needed!
  • Secretary
  • Concert Coordinator
The deadline for nominations is Sunday 15th June. Please nominate yourself for a specific position (maximum two), by completing this short Google form

Charity Nominations and Concert Name
We are now open to suggestions from choir members of:
a) A charity to support with the profits from our concert
b) A name for the concert
Charity: if you'd like to nominate a charity for us to support, please write a short paragraph (max 150 words) to describe what the charity does, if there's a personal link to it and a link to the website.
Concert name: We usually give each concert a name to help with publicity. This is often drawn from a song title or lyric that we're singing. Have a look at this term's lyrics sheet if you'd like some inspiration!

Please email any suggestions to singcommunitychoir@gmail.com by Monday 9th June. We may shortlist suggestions if we get a lot. Then look out for a poll in next week's email to vote for your favourites!

That's all for this week, lots of love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Nominations for Sing! Committee 2025-26 are now OPEN!

Hi lovely Singers,

The time has come when we are looking to recruit our next committee, to help run Sing! for another year!

We are therefore now 🎉 open to nominations for the 2025-26 Committee! 🎉 This will begin at the end of Summer this year and run through to the end of Summer 2026.

Please see here for details of the different committee positions, and have a think about whether you would like to be involved. For more information, do ask the current position holder or a member of the leadership team (Naomi, Diana, Tizzy).
We know we will have gaps next year for the following roles, so we particularly welcome nominations for these. But please do also apply for other roles too; many current committee members are happy to stay or not as needed!
  • Secretary
  • Concert Coordinator
The deadline for nominations is Sunday 15th June. Please nominate yourself for a specific position (maximum two), by completing this short Google formFor positions with more than one nominee, we will then share the ‘blurbs’ with the choir and ask you all to vote via an anonymous online poll. Please don't be put off by this; in recent years we've rarely had to vote on any role.

You are very welcome to nominate yourself whether you've been on the committee before or not, or whether you've been in the choir for years or just joined this year! 😀 If you don’t have the time or capacity to be a full committee member, but you have expertise/interest in a specific area – e.g. social media, video editing, refreshment coordinating for concerts etc. – we’d also love to hear from you.
Finally, even if you can't get involved yourself, do have a think about who you know in choir who would be brilliant in one of these roles and encourage them to put themselves forward!

🎶 We look forward to receiving your nominations! 🎶

[Sing! Rehearsals] No Rehearsal – please practise!

Dear Sing!ers,
We will not be meeting this week but that means this is a great chance to catch up on learning all the songs from the term so far using our fantastic recorded part tracks which you will find a link for below!
Please practise!
The half-term break is the perfect time to listen to the brilliant resources in the Drive and remind yourself of all this term's songs! 😃

After the break, we'll be bringing back songs every week that we learnt earlier this term. The purpose of giving songs this extra time is to refine them so they're the best they can be when it comes to the concert! But this only works if we all refresh our memories of our parts before each rehearsal. Otherwise we spend the rehearsal time just working our way back to where we were the last time we rehearsed the song, instead of making it better. So for the next half term, please check the weekly email to find out the songs for that week and practise your part in advance, so that we can spend rehearsals doing the fun stuff!!

Call for cabaret acts for concert on Sunday 13th July!

As usual, we'd like our concert to include a few 'cabaret' pieces – these are songs performed as a solo, duet or small group, rather than by the whole choir. They provide variety in the concert programme and give a chance for smaller groups to showcase their talent!

We can only fit a certain number of these in each concert. Often we have space for all offers, but sometimes we have too many suggestions and have to be selective. So, if you’re interested in offering a cabaret act, please email musicteam@singcommunitychoir.co.uk by Friday 6th June, letting us know:

  • What song you’d like to do
  • Roughly how many people would be involved, and whether you already have people signed up or would need to recruit them
  • A quick description of the arrangement you want to do e.g. mood, accompanied/a cappella etc

If you need to recruit other singers, please make an initial effort to do this before putting your idea forward (e.g. chat to others at rehearsals or post in our Facebook group). Also do think about what will be realistic to get together to a performance standard in the time you have available. We’ll be in touch after the deadline to confirm which acts will be in the concert.

Looking forward to seeing you again next week!

Love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Last rehearsal before half term (for real this time…)

Dear Sing!ers,
We are looking forward to seeing you again for another fun filled rehearsal this Thursday 22nd May in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form College from 7:30 – 9:15.
This week, we will be recapping Wayfaring Stranger, followed by learning a new song Wonder and finally finishing off Our Word, Our World. This week it will be Sopranos' turn to bring snacks please.
Very Important Poll!
We sent this super short poll out 2 weeks ago on 5th May and we want to check that everyone has definitely answered. If you think you have not responded to this poll, please do so now, so that we know how many choir members will be coming to our concert.

Thanks so much, with love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Weekend Away 2026

Dear Sing!ers,
After a brilliant Weekend Away we'll be going back to Letton Hall next year!

We want to get it booked in asap so this is a very quick survey to choose between the two possible weekends next May.

If you are anywhere between TAKE MY MONEY NOW! and mildly curious then please complete the form.

If you already know the Weekend Away is not for you then you don't need to answer (and thanks for reading this far!)

You can find the form here: https://forms.gle/Q8zpy5kLRscGo3mD6

This doesn’t commit you to anything, we just want to secure the venue for the date that works best.

Please respond by this Thursday. Many thanks!

The Sing! team

[Sing! Rehearsals] Don’t forget to pay subs

This week we will meet again on Thursday 15th May at Hills Rd 6th Form college from 7:30 – 9:15. We will rehearse Wayfaring Stranger so as not to forget all the fine details Suzzie Vango taught us and we can pass them on to anyone who wasn't able to come to the workshop too. We will be recapping Joy and finally polishing off the split songs: Girl on Fire and I Wonder Why. This week it will be Altos' turn to bring snacks.

Equipment Helpers

We haven't had many sign-ups for equipment this term so please do put your name down if you come 2 weeks in a row with a car. In particular we need someone to take them this week who is going to the Weekend Away please! The link is here.

Many thanks,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Important Dates – including change of concert date!

Dear Sing! Choir,
As we mentioned in the rehearsal on Thursday, we will almost certainly be changing our concert date to Sunday 13th July now after an unfortunate mix up with Netherhall. We realise that this might mean not everyone who was planning to come might still be able to so we need you to take this *Important Action*: Please fill in this 10 second poll to let us know if you will be able to take part in the concert on Sunday 13th July. This will really help us with concert planning.
Refugee Fundraising Event

Here is another event you should put into your diaries: Sing! will be performing at the Voices of Compassion concert and fundraiser at the Corn Exchange on Sunday 22nd June. This event is one of the ways that Cambridge will mark Refugee Week, a UK-wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Sing! will be performing Our Word, Our World, Somewhere Only We Know and Wayfaring Stranger (which we'll be starting at rehearsal next week and working on with Suzzie Vango at the weekend away workshop). The concert starts at 4pm on Sunday 22nd June; performers will likely need to arrive a little earlier for rehearsals.
All the best,

[Sing! Rehearsals] We want to hear your voice!

Dear Sing!ers,
We are looking forward to seeing you for a rather hot rehearsal this Thursday 1st May in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form College from 7:30 – 9:15.
This week we are going to recap Somewhere only we know. Then we have a new song: Our Word, Our World, followed by the split songs again: Girl on Fire and I Wonder Why. This week it will be Sopranos' turn to bring snacks.
Please complete our survey
We would like to invite everyone to give us your feedback on Sing! by completing this survey. It's been a while since we last asked for feedback and in the past have found these surveys to be a very helpful indication of what we're doing well and what we could try to improve! We've acted directly on a lot of the feedback given in the past, making changes which have hopefully improved the Sing! experience for everyone, and would like to do the same again now 🙂
Here is the link to let us know your thoughts and improve your choir experience: https://forms.gle/632JZqecJWoFVEtP7
Equipment Helpers please

We always need help to cart a small amount of equipment to and from rehearsals so anyone who has a car with a small amount of space in the boot please consider signing up to take the equipment home for one week. The sign-up link is here.

That's all for this week – see you tomorrow!

Warm-up volunteers needed!

Dear Sing! Community Choir,
We hope you enjoyed a sunny chocolate-filled Easter! Now it is time for us to meet again this Thursday 24th April at Hills Rd 6th Form College in the Recital room from 7:30 – 9:15.
This week, we will have an extra long session to work on Hadestown Medley and get it sounding really good. Please have a listen to the part tracks if you are not sure about your part as it is quite tricky. After that, we will be learning some more Somewhere Only We Know. This is another challenging song, so make sure you are up to scratch on both before the rehearsal please. This week, it is the Altos' turn to provide snacks.
Warm-up leader shout out!

If you would like to get more involved in our wonderful community choir, leading warm-ups is a fantastic way to dip your toe in and try out some simple teaching. We have a huge bank of tried and tested warm-ups which we can direct you to or help you with. Just ask one of the team about how to get involved or why not sign yourself up for a slot here? We really need warm-up help this term, so the more people that get involved the better.

That's all for now and we can't wait to see you all back again this week!
Lots of love, the Sing! Team.
