Easter holidays – no rehearsal this week

Dear Sing!ers,
Just a quick reminder that it is in fact the Easter holidays at the moment, not half term. So we are having a 2 week break and will not be meeting tomorrow. Have a lovely chocolate-filled Easter and we'll see you all next week on Thursday 24th April.
All the best, the Sing! team.

Last rehearsal before half term

Hi Sing!ers,
This will be the last rehearsal before a one week break next week. So we will see you from 7:30 -9:15 on Thursday 3rd April in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form College.
We will be recapping The Bare Necessities so do refresh your memories on that one as it has been a while. We will also be learning more Hadestown Medley and our split songs: I Wonder Why and Girl on Fire. Everything is on the drive to practise before you come.
No need to bring any snacks this week as we have plenty which need using up before the half term break.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday – enjoy the sunshine this week!
Love, the Sing! team.

This week’s rehearsal

Dear Sing!ers,

We look forward to seeing you again this Thursday 27th March from 7:30 – 9:15 in the Recital Room at Hills rd 6th Form College. This week it will be Tenors' and Basses' turn to bring snacks.
For the recap this time, we will split into our Sop/Alto and Tenor/Bass songs: Girl on Fire and I Wonder Why. Check out the new part tracks for Girl on Fire on the drive. After that, we will learn some more Somewhere Only We Know and Hadestown Medley. Look out for *new* slowed down part tracks for Somewhere Only We Know, now available on the drive.
Finally, if you want to secure your space on the Weekend Away, make sure you pay! It's as simple as that! Just check the spreadsheet to find out how much.
All the best, see you on Thursday!
Love, the Sing! team. x

More new songs!

Dear Sing!ers,

We will be meeting as usual this week in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form College on Thursday 20th March from 7:30 – 9:15.
This week it will be the Sopranos' turn to bring snacks.
We will be starting 2 new songs this week. The first is Hadestown Medley and the second one is our split song. This is something we do in each performance to give everyone a chance to experience singing in a smaller choir. This time, we will be splitting by parts so Sopranos and Altos will learn Girl on Fire and Tenors and Basses will learn I Wonder Why. We will also possibly do a recap of Livin' on a Prayer this week too.
That's all for this week! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
Love, the Sing! team. x

Fancy a solo?

Dear Sing!ers,

This week we will be meeting in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form College as usual from 7:30-9:15 on Thursday 13th March
We will be rehearsing only 2 songs again this week: Can't Stop the Feeling and Somewhere Only We Know. It is Altos' turn to bring snacks this week.
Shout Out for Soloists
Do you fancy singing a solo but you aren't sure which song is right for you? Well drop us a line and we'll invite you to come to an informal try-out, where you can have a go at some of the different solos that are available and we will try to match the voices to the songs. If you have already expressed your interest in a solo then there is no need to let us know again.

The list of songs that will likely have solos available are:
  • Songs we've already done at rehearsal:
    • Livin' On A Prayer (x2)
    • Never Gonna Not Dance Again (1 solo, 1 duet)
    • Can't Stop The Feeling (x2)
  • Songs we haven't started yet:
    • Girl On Fire – Alicia Keys (x1). This will be our sop/alto split song.
    • Hadestown Medley (1 trio)
    • Wonder – Emeli Sandé (x1)
    • All These Things That I've Done – The Killers (x1)
    • Wayfaring Stranger – multiple artists (x1)
    • Possibly: Today One Day – a bluesy call-and-response song with lyrics by Michael Rosen (x2)
Many thanks, see you on Thursday!
Love, the Sing! Team. x

Roadworks heads up

Dear Sing!ers,

Please be aware that for tomorrow night, there may be some delay arriving at Hills Rd 6th Form as there are some 4 way traffic lights slowing things down at the bridge, so it could be a good idea to check your map apps to see which is the best/quickest way to go and allow enough time.
Many thanks, Sing! team.

Catching up on music

Now that we have all our new members for the term, we'd like to remind everyone of what we hope for from you in terms of learning music for the term. As we are a choir with a relaxed attendance policy (come when you can, but don't worry if you miss some weeks!), and a choir that learns by ear rather than from sheet music, we've learnt over the years that it can be a challenge to make progress with songs in our rehearsals. For those who've missed rehearsals it can be difficult to catch up, and for those who are there every week it can be frustrating to continually have to go over things again from the beginning!

We really want to make Sing! as enjoyable as possible for everyone. So, in each weekly email, we tell you which songs we'll be singing at the coming Thursday's rehearsal. If you're going to miss the rehearsal, we'd like to ask that you have a listen and practise the songs at home instead, using the resources on our Google drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1oWnyICGvNOpoPQ671RJtWrKU5anoZnxX

This link is included at the bottom of every weekly email we send (If you can’t find it straight away, it might be in an attachment).

We aim to share as much as we can in this folder. Due to permissions, we're not able to share full scores of all the songs, but we will share lyrics and audio recordings for everything where possible. Getting all these resources up takes a lot of time on our part, so please do use them! We're working our way through the songs for this term, so keep checking back 🙂

That's all for today, see you on Thursday!

Love, the Sing! Team. x
