[Sing! Rehearsals] Submit song suggestions and volunteer for next term!

Dear Singers,

We hope you're all having a lovely summer!

We're busy looking ahead to the new term and our next concert on Saturday 7th February 2026. Do you have a brilliant idea for a song we should include in the programme? Would you like to have a go at teaching a part, playing an instrument or conducting a song? We'd love to hear from you!

Click here and use the first tab if you'd like to suggest a song. And whether you're an old hand or a complete beginner, if you'd like to get involved in some way next term please go to the second tab and let us know 😃

Here are a few pointers regarding song suggestions:

  • We know you'll have lots of great ideas, but please submit only 1 suggestion per person (be selective!) to avoid us being overwhelmed with ideas. Think particularly about what would work well as a choir song.
  • It's really helpful if you can do as much of your own research as possible. If you can find a suitable arrangement, provide the link to where we could buy it, and find a video or recording of the arrangement being sung, this makes the music team's job so much easier and increases the chance of your suggestion being selected. NB: we're looking for choir arrangements rather than instrumental scores or solo voice scores. Look for SATB arrangements, or arrangements for TB or SA voices are also welcome as we regularly do split songs. Equally, if you've written or plan to write your own arrangement that's great!
  • We're working towards a February concert this year, so wintry suggestions are very welcome (think Winter Song from last year), but avoid Christmas songs.
  • We promise to consider all song suggestions, but picking the programme involves weighing up a lot of different factors, so please don't be disappointed if your suggestion doesn't get picked.

The music team will be meeting next week, so please submit your song suggestions by this Friday 22nd August.

Love Diana & the music team

[Sing! Rehearsals] Concert – cakes, baked items and J2O cans reminder

Dear Sing!ers,
If you are baking a cake for Sunday, then this message from Amanda is for you!
Hi All

Please check the concert sign up sheet to check if you have offered to bring baked goods.
Please remember to bring your baked offerings to the concert – hang onto your baked items during rehearsal and drop off in the foyer to the hall after rehearsal before the break ahead of the concert – we'll have allergy / ingredients labels ready in the foyer

Please remember the following for your baked goods:
-Please be extra careful with hygiene when baking .
– Cut your bake into individual portions before you bring it.
-We can't keep anything in a refrigerator – so non-fridge or non-melt items would be good, or bring a cool / chilled bag to contain the item during rehearsal .
– Take note of the ingredients in your baking as the venue requires us to list allergens for all food. (labels will be provided)
-Collect your containers / cool bags after the concert.
J20 cans delivery
  • If you are bringing J20 cans – please bring these to the foyer outside the hall on arrival or after the rehearsal.
Thanks for contributing towards refreshments for the concert.

Amanda and

[Sing! Rehearsals] Band songs long rehearsal tomorrow!

Dear Sing Community Choir,
Tomorrow is our LAST rehearsal before the big concert on Sunday. Please make sure you have practised everything before the rehearsal tomorrow, Thursday 10th July from 7:00 – 9:30 at Hills Rd 6th Form College. Please note again the earlier time for the longer rehearsal.
1. The Songs!
Tomorrow, we will be running: Never Gonna Not Dance Again, Living on a Prayer, All These Things That I've Done, Joy, Hadestown, and Can't Stop the Feeling. This week it will be Sopranos' turn to bring snacks.

2. Concert Promotion
Here are our tips for promotion:

  • Buy tickets here: https://bit.ly/sing-event
  • Share posters/flyers at workplaces/schools/community spaces etc. Mario will be bringing printed flyers and posters to rehearsals for you to take away. Have a think about where you could display them for maximum effect! You can also print your own poster/flyer from the files here.
  • Share the Facebook event. Invite people to the event or share it on your Facebook page, to generate interest and show how many people are coming!
  • Share our social media posts (or create your own). Please use your Facebook, Instagram or X accounts to share the social media posts that have been posted about the concert. You can find all the Sing! social media accounts using the buttons at the bottom of this email.
3. Concert Day Info Sheet

4. Volunteers still needed

We still need your help to plug the gaps in the Concert Sign Up sheet. Check it out and see if you there are other ways you can help your community choir. We still need help with putting up the bunting, putting up posters to direct people to the concert, tidying up and writing a blog. There are others too so do have a look.

That's all for this week. See you tomorrow for a fab rehearsal!

That's all for this week
Love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Long Rehearsal this Thursday!

Dear Sing!ers,
1. Extended Rehearsal
We are ramping things up as the concert approaches and this week we are running our non-band songs in a slightly longer rehearsal. We hope to see you on Thursday 3rd July from 7:00 – 9:30 – (please note the earlier time) in the Recital Room at Hills Rd 6th Form college. As we are running the songs to Performance Standard we would like to remind you there will be no lyrics sheets this week thankyou.
2. Songs for this week
We will be running the following songs, so please make sure you know them by Thursday: Bare Necessities, Closer to Fine, Our Word Our World, Somewhere Only We Know, Poor Wayfarin' Stranger, Wonder, Girl on Fire/I Wonder Why.
This week it will be the Altos' turn to bring snacks.

3. Put Your Name on the Concert Sign Up sheet
We will soon be printing the programmes so if you want to have your name on it please add it to the Concert Sign Up sheet here. Also, the concert is a team event and we are a community choir because we are all good at chipping in and helping out so please do think about signing up for one of the jobs on the list. There are things as small as buying some drinks cans or larger ones such as helping out with the staging.

4. Concert Promotion
We really need your help with promoting the concert so if you haven't already, make sure to check out the email we sent on Friday with 4 easy actions everyone can do to help publicise the concert.
5. Concert Info Doc

[Sing! Rehearsals] Important concert actions!

Hello Singers,

1. Concert sign-up sheet

The concert sign-up sheet is ready for you to fill in. There are two tabs in the spreadsheet:

  • TAB 1: Sign up to help with concert tasks (some tasks are things choir members can help with; for others we're looking for kind friends/family who would be willing to help in return for free entrance)
  • TAB 2: Add your name to be included on the programme!

2. Key concert info

The full concert info doc will be shared next week. For now we wanted to let you know two key things:

Arrival time: As usual, we will be asking the choir to arrive at 3.15pm, to start warming up at 3.30pm.

Dresscode: Black + Sing! colours (bright blue / bright pink / bright yellow)

  • No patterns or logos please – stick to block colours
  • Go for bright shades of blue, yellow or pink, not pastels or dark colours
  • Please aim to be smart rather than casual, e.g. dress shoes rather than trainers, a smart top or collared shirt and tie rather than a polo shirt, etc.

3. Please help us publicise the concert!

Tickets are on sale for the concert, and we need your help to publicise it! Due to the change of date, our choir will be a little smaller than usual this time, and the Atrium at Netherhall is a big space! So we're really relying on all of you to encourage lots of people to come along and help create a great atmosphere 😃

Here are four things you can do to help:

1. Encourage friends and family to come! Send them a link to https://bit.ly/sing-event where they can buy tickets.

2. Share posters/flyers at workplaces/schools/community spaces etc. Mario will be bringing printed flyers and posters to rehearsals for you to take away. Have a think about where you could display them for maximum effect! You can also print your own poster/flyer from the files here.

3. Share the Facebook event. Invite people to the event or share it on your Facebook page, to generate interest and show how many people are coming!

4. Share our social media posts (or create your own). Please use your Facebook, Instagram or X accounts to share the social media posts that have been posted about the concert. You can find all the Sing! social media accounts using the buttons at the bottom of this email.

4. End-of-term celebration

On Thursday 17th July, we'll meet at Hills Road at our usual rehearsal time for a fun, laid-back sing-through and celebration. This will be a chance for us to sing our current set of songs one last time, just for fun, and to enjoy how glorious we sound!! 😃 🎶 Plus we'll bring and share snacks. Afterwards we'll head to The Rock on Cherry Hinton Rd. Stick the date in your diaries and join us to mark the end of the Sing! year! ☺️

Much love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] No lyrics sheets this week!

Dear Sing!ers,
Thanks so much to those of you who came to the 'Voices of Hope' concert on Sunday. It was a fabulous event and it was great to try out some of our songs on stage. We sounded great: well done!
1. Practise songs for this week
We will be meeting on Thursday 26th July to rehearse again in the Recital room at Hills Rd 6th Form college from 7:30 – 9:15.
Please do not bring lyric sheets to this rehearsal. First up we will be recapping Closer to Fine – it's been a while so refresh your memories as necessary please. Next, we will learn some more of All These Things That I've Done and finally we'll finish Wonder and run Can't Stop The Feeling so please make sure you have practised the tricky bits in these songs.
2. Charity nomination
Drum roll please…our nominated charity this time is Clean Shelter who provide humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Finally please look out for an email later in the week with concert sign-ups!

Love,

[Sing! Rehearsals] Corn Exchange dress code and ticket sales open

Dear Sing!ers,
We are looking forward to singing together again on Thursday 19th June in the Recital room at Hills Rd 6th Form college from 7:30 – 9:15.
1. Recapping songs
This week we'll be recapping 3 more songs, so please practise these by Thursday: Wayfaring StrangerJoy and the Hadestown Medley. We'll also be continuing to learn All These Things That I've Done. This week it is Sopranos' turn to bring snacks.
2. Important update on Corn Exchange performance
We were asked last week if there is a dress code for our performance at the refugee event this Sunday. This was a great question which we must admit we hadn't thought about! We've now concluded that our performance will look much better if we do follow a simple dress code. So for this Sunday, please wear either all black or black and white
3. Ticket sales now open for our summer concert!
You can now buy tickets for our concert at bit.ly/sing-tickets. Please share with all your friends and family and encourage them to come along for a joyful, summery evening!
That's for this week. See you on Thursday!

[Sing! Rehearsals] Concert name and charity voting

Dear Sing!ers,

As we get nearer to both the Refugee Week concert and our own concert date, we would like to remind you to keep up all the hard work with practising at home. We will be meeting this Thursday 12th June from 7:30 – 9:15 at Hills Rd 6th Form college in the Recital room. This week it will be the Altos' turn to bring snacks.

1. This week: three songs to practise!

This week we'll be recapping 3 songs, so please make sure you know your part for the following: Our Word Our WorldGirl On Fire (SA) / I Wonder Why (TB), and Somewhere Only We Know. Then we can spend the rehearsal making them sound awesome! We'll also be continuing to learn All These Things That I've Done.

2. Vote for our concert name and charity – deadline this Friday 13th June

Thank you to everyone who suggested concert names and charities for us to support with our summer concert. We had lots of concert name suggestions so we've created a shortlist for you to pick from. Please vote on your favourite option by completing this quick poll

3. Reminder about committee nominations – deadline this Sunday 15th June

We haven't had many nominations so far, so please do think about whether you could be a part of our committee next year! We're particularly looking for a new Secretary and Concert Coordinator. See here for details of the different committee positions. Please let us know you're keen by filling in this short Google form.

4. Details for Refugee Week performance on Sunday 22nd June

As you know, we're performing at the Voices of Compassion concert at the Corn Exchange on 22nd June.

Choir member arrival time: We have a 30 minute rehearsal slot on the Corn Exchange stage from 2.45-3.15pm. Please arrive by 2.30pm so that we can find seats etc before rehearsing.

Where to go: We've been asked to enter via the side door on the corner of Parson's Court (in between the Corn Exchange and Steak & Honour)

Concert: The concert itself will then start at 4pm. All are welcome! It's free to attend, with voluntary donations collected in aid of CamCRAG and the Cambridge Refugee Hardship Fund.

That's all for this week! Keep practising and we'll see you on Thursday!
