Welcome to Friends of Sing!

Dear friends
We're tidying up our Sing! mailing lists to ensure that everyone gets the right amount of information at the start of the new term.
Our records show that this email address did not register for the Spring/Summer 26 term with Sing!, so you have been moved to the Friends of Sing! mailing list.
If this is in error, please fill in this form ASAP:
https://forms.gle/BCW3ARxkHwhDwcHX7
If you registered with a different email address to the one that is receiving this message, no action is needed.
Otherwise, you'll receive occasional updates on Sing! concerts and events, but will no longer get spammed with the day-to-day information about rehearsals.
Much Sing! love to you all,

If you're a current part-teacher / conductor and haven't been to one of these workshops before (or even if you have!), we'd strongly encourage you to come along. If you think you might be interested in getting involved in future (with no obligation to do so!), please do also come along!
If you're interested in attending the workshop, *please fill in this poll to let us know your availability* and help us select the best date.
Any questions, do ask 🎶

[Sing! Rehearsals] Sing! This Week :)

Dear Sing!ers,

Apologies for a long email this week, but please do read it all, as it contains lots of really important information 🙂

This week:
We will be in the Recital Room at Hills Road at 7.30 pm this Thursday. This week we will be recapping Joy, starting a new song, Shotgun and learning some more of Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat. We have plenty of snacks, so no need to bring anything this week thank you. Please can you make an extra effort to spend some time learning Joy, as we won't have time to go through all of it this week. (See note about part tracks below.)

Time to pay subs:
Well done for registering for this term. It's now time to pay your subs please. Please pay by Saturday 4 April. It's £52.50 right through until the end of the summer term or £26.25 for concessions (self declared, for whatever reason with no questions asked). Prompt payment to help with planning would be greatly appreciated. Any issues please catch Claire (Treasurer) or a member of the committee at rehearsal. Usual bank details are below and please remember to add your name as a reference! Thank you!!

Bank: The Co-operative Bank

Account name: Sing! Community Choir (leave the exclamation mark out if needed)

Catching up on music:

Now that we have all our new members for the term, we'd like to remind everyone of what we hope for from you in terms of learning music for the term. As we are a choir with a relaxed attendance policy (come when you can, but don't worry if you miss some weeks!), and a choir that learns by ear, rather than from sheet music, we've learnt over the years that it can be a challenge to make progress with songs in our rehearsals. For those who've missed rehearsals it can be difficult to catch up, and for those who are there every week it can be frustrating to continually have to go over things again from the beginning!

We really want to make Sing! as enjoyable as possible for everyone. So, in each weekly email, we tell you which songs we'll be singing at the coming Thursday's rehearsal. If you're going to miss the rehearsal, we'd like to ask that you have a listen and practise the songs at home instead, using the resources on our Google drive. You can find the link to the part tracks at this link: https://singcommunitychoir.co.uk/keep-singing-sum-26/ which was shared with you when you signed up, so do save it.

From next week, this link will be included at the bottom of every weekly email we send (if you can’t find it straight away, it might be in an attachment).

We aim to share as much as we can in this folder. Due to permissions, we're not able to share full scores of all the songs, but we will share lyrics and audio recordings for everything where possible. Getting all these resources up takes a lot of time on our part, so please do use them! We're working our way through the songs for this term, so keep checking back 🙂

[Sing! Rehearsals] Sing! Song Suggestions for Summer!

Dear Sing!ers,

We're looking forward to the concert tomorrow but the Summer term is fast approaching and we need to decide what we're going to sing! Do you have a brilliant idea for a song we should include in the programme? Would you like to have a go at teaching a part, playing an instrument or conducting a song? We'd love to hear from you!

Please click the link below and use the first tab to suggest a song. Then add your name to the second tab if you would like to try teaching a part, conducting a song or playing an instrument for a song.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/161Yga7ntybmyISq4eV_MCnLct0ACWieNzM4L8KBjGaU/edit?usp=sharing

Here are a few pointers regarding song suggestions:

  • Please only make 1 suggestion each

  • It's really helpful if you can do as much of your own research as possible. If you can find a suitable arrangement, provide the link to where we could buy it, and find a video or recording of the arrangement being sung, this makes the music team's job so much easier and increases the chance of your suggestion being selected. Try googling 'song_name artist_name sheet music SATB' or use sites like Musescore or Sheet Music Direct to find arrangements for choirs. It's alright if you can't read music as they often have a play preview function inbuilt. We'll also be doing 2 split songs, so 2 part arrangements labelled TB or SA are also welcome.

  • If you've written or plan to write your own arrangement that's great please mention that in the spreadsheet!

  • We promise to consider all song suggestions, but picking the programme involves weighing up a lot of different factors, so please don't be disappointed if your suggestion doesn't get picked. If you’ve suggested something before that didn’t get picked and you still think it would be great, feel free to suggest it again.

  • They’ll all be for our summer concert so songs in keeping with that theme are especially welcome

The deadline for suggestions is Saturday 14th February. Then the music team will meet to work out our repertoire for next term.

Keep singing!

Will and the Sing! Music Team
