[Sing! Rehearsals] Now launching the Sing Whatsapp Community!

We are excited to introduce you to the Sing! Community Choir Whatsapp Community! This will be a place where you can read last minute announcements (such as room changes) and join group conversations for your voice part, with other topic groups to be added soon. Joining this community is optional, and won't replace this mailing list, which will still be how we communicate the majority of information with you.
What you need to do:
1) Read these guidelines and decide whether you would like to join or not
(NB please read the guidance about making your name visible)
2) If you would like to join, click this link (from your phone), which should take you to Whatsapp and sign you up
3) If you are already in a Sing voice part-group (Sopranos or Basses) and you want to join the new community, you can wait and the whole group will be imported for you shortly 
4) If you are already in a Sing voice part-group (Sopranos or Basses) and you don't want to join the new community, please leave the voice-part group now before it is imported!
5) Bear with us! This is going to be a learning experience for all of us so please speak to a member of the committee if you have any queries, suggestions or concerns and we will do our best to make this community function as smoothly as possible 🙂
We hope to move over some of the other Sing-related chat groups in the near future – before this happens, one of the group admins will let your group know so you have the option of whether to stay or leave.

This week at Sing!

This week we'll be recapping Winter Song, and then we'll be learning some more of Hadestown Medley. We’re not quite sure of the third song yet, so do please make sure you’re up to date with all the songs we’re doing this term. We have so many leftover snacks that we'll be eating up the leftovers this week, so no need to do any baking!

Subs

Subs are now due for this term. Please pay by Friday 24 October. We are keeping them flat, but keeping an eye on costs. So £52.50 until February or £26.25 for concessions (self declared, so if this is what you can afford for whatever reason with no questions asked). Prompt payment to help with planning would be greatly appreciated. Any issues please catch Clare (Treasurer) or a member of the committee at rehearsal. Sing! Super Saturday
We're really pleased so many people have signed up to Sing! This week at Sing!
This week we'll be doing a surprise recap song! Then we'll be learning some more of Keep Singing and the Abba Gold Medley. It's the Tenors and Basses turn to bring snacks.

Catching up on music

Now that we have all our new members for the term, we'd like to remind everyone of what we hope for from you in terms of learning music for the term. As we are a choir with a relaxed attendance policy (come when you can, but don't worry if you miss some weeks!), and a choir that learns by ear rather than from sheet music, we've learnt over the years that it can be a challenge to make progress with songs in our rehearsals. For those who've missed rehearsals it can be difficult to catch up, and for those who are there every week it can be frustrating to continually have to go over things again from the beginning!

We really want to make Sing! as enjoyable as possible for everyone. So, in each weekly email, we tell you which songs we'll be singing at the coming Thursday's rehearsal. If you're going to miss the rehearsal, we'd like to ask that you have a listen and practise the songs at home instead, using the resources on our Google drive here: For the Choir (Autumn 2025)

This link is included at the bottom of every weekly email we send (If you can’t find it straight away, it might be in an attachment).

We aim to share as much as we can in this folder. Due to permissions, we're not able to share full scores of all the songs, but we will share lyrics and audio recordings for everything where possible. Getting all these resources up takes a lot of time on our part, so please do use them! We're working our way through the songs for this term, so keep checking back 🙂

[Sing! Rehearsals] This week at Sing!

Welcome back for our third and final taster session for new members. It's been lovely to welcome some new people this term, please do ask if you have any questions. 

This week: 
We will be recapping the Abba Medley, then learning some more of Winter Song and Keep Singing. It's the ALTOS turn to bring snacks please. 

Equipment rota:
We can all contribute to the choir in different ways. If you drive to choir, would you be able to help with the equipment rota please? This involves taking home a few items, including the speaker, microphone, and clearing up and taking away any leftover snacks. You'd also need to be sure you are coming the following week, to bring it all back. If you can help, please put your name down on the rota. The more people who help, the less often you'll need to do it. Thank you!

We hope you've had a good summer and we look forward to welcoming you back for a new term with Sing! Community Choir! This week we will be meeting in the Recital Room at Hills Road Sixth Form College at the usual time of 7:30-9:15 pm on Thursday 11 September. In case you need a reminder, the code for the car park is 8945. 

This week, we'll be starting to learn an ABBA Medley as well as Winter Song. It's the Soprano's turn to bring snacks this week please.  


The first three weeks of term will be taster sessions, to which we have invited a few select people from all parts who are on our waiting list.

We look forward to seeing lots of you at our pub trip to the Grain and Hop Store on Thursday 4 September, on Regent Terrace (opposite Parker's Piece); we've booked the upstairs bar from 7 pm to 10 pm, so do come along for a drink and catch up. There is also a pub quiz going on downstairs if you'd like to join in. 

 

Thursday 11 September: the start of our new term, same time, same place – Hills Road Sixth Form College, 7.30 pm to 9.15 pm. The first three sessions will be taster sessions for those we have invited from our waiting list.
